As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), the Microsoft Nigerian in partnership with paradigm initiative Nigeria (PIN) has organized a one day campaign against internet fraud using the instrumentality of music.
The event which took place at the main auditorium of University of Lagos featured nine top Nigerian artist who came together to produce one song titled; “MAGA NO NEED PAY” which was used as the theme of event. Some of the artist are roof top MC, Modele, Wordsmith, Cohbams Asuquo, Terry G, and Mr. Incredible (MI)- who was commended for winning two MTV base awards and other 18 awards within 18 months.
Explaining the song, the guest speaker of the day,Mr. Akinyemi Adeolu spoke extensively on the alternatives to cyber crime. According to him succeeding in cyber crime demands so much patience and perseverance, if the same attitude can be transferred into other legal internet marketing businesses, the Nigerian state will have an automatic rebranding.
Meanwhile, the citizenship programme manager of Microsoft, Dr. Jummai umar-Ajijola who spoke with campusdailyonline.com said that Microsoft is partnering with the association of vice chancellors of universities to stop cyber crime among young people of Nigeria. She said that the internet is the major source of Nigeria relation with international communities, therefore if there is any problem with our internet the entire nation is in trouble.
When asked about the challenges of the organization she pointed out two things, one of which was the absence of any prior legislation in Nigeria on cyber crime but that the national assembly is already putting things in place in recent time about that.
The second challenge was the need for more nongovernmental organization (NGO) to join the campaign. At the moment, one key organization that is partnering with Microsoft Nigeria is paradigm initiative Nigeria (PIN). PIN was represented at the event by its executive director, Mr. Gbenga Sesan and other members of their work force.
Other highlights of the event was the public reading of a chapter of the book, ‘ I do not come to you by chance’ which was written and read by the commonwealth book price winner, Miss Adaobi Tricia Nwahbani, a documentary which featured the head of Economic and financial crime commission (EFCC), Madam Farida Waziri and a live performance of all the artists present.
